In the case of a house fire or other emergency, glass block basement windows in older homes are rarely large enough for individuals to jump out of. The basement may contain small, narrow windows or hopper windows that open inward, depending on the age of the house. These windows are too small for a person to depart or for a first responder to enter. Egress windows are huge secondary exit windows that allow you or a family member to safely depart in the event of an emergency. All of a home’s living spaces must have these windows.
