Buyers Guide to Techneat Sprayers

by TurfCareBlog

Buyers Guide to Techneat Sprayers, in this informative Q&A style blog l ask questions such as what makes your sprayers unique and what should turf professionals look for when purchasing sprayers.

What makes your range of sprayers a great choice for any turf professional?

We have been designing, manufacturing and supporting sprayers into the UK turf care market for over 30 years.  Our sprayers are known for being reliable, robust, accurate, safe and easy to use.

Is there anything unique about your range of machines?

As well as being designed and developed in house – we manufacture all parts ourselves – including rotamoulding the tanks and fabrication of the steel work.  When you need advice and support it’s on hand in the UK, spares can be quickly despatched from our premises in Cambridgeshire.

What are your range of sprayers?

  • Acuspray (1m spray width – pump driven off wheels) ideal for bowling greens and large lawns.
  • De-icer – Acuspray with Stainless parts for de-icing purposes perfect for commercial and retail premises car parks and pedestrian areas.
  • Acuspray Solo (12v battery powered pump 2m boom push along)
  • Pro Drift (3 wheeled covered boom sprayer for boundary spraying)
  • SPPS (Self Propelled Pedestrian Sprayer) Petrol 3m – 4m
  • Pro-ESpray (Lithium-ion battery self-propelled sprayer) 3-4m
  • Weed Wizard – Spot sprayer using camera tech to target only weeds

Is there a tractor mounted sprayer in the pipeline?

We are always looking for new products to add to our product ranges – development is led by customers expressing the need for new things. Due to our design and production facility, we would look to manufacture a tractor mounted sprayer – if the market is there.

What should a turf professional look for when purchasing a sprayer?

Always look for a well-built sprayer from a manufacturer with experience and very good technical back up. We are the manufacturer – therefore Techneat has all spare parts available off the shelf for next delivery – we are also a UK company so if you buy from us you are supporting British industry.

Do you have dealers and how does after sales support work?

We have dealers across the country and our own online shop. We are always happy to work with the customer to resolve any issues or offer advise over the phone.

Can you tell me more about your new sprayer (weed wizard) that selectively sprays weeds, rather than just blanket sprays?

The Weed Wizard spot sprayer uses cutting edge camera recognition technology – It is available as a kit to fit existing Quadbikes or as a turn-key machine offered on a fully electric UTV vehicle. It uses camera-based technology to target weeds in cycle/path ways, gravel hardstanding and block paving. It can reduce herbicide usage by up to 90% therefore reducing the potential environmental impact from herbicide use and drastically reducing costs.

A front mounted small boom with multiple nozzles (including the camera) is fed from a small tank mounted behind the operator. The specially developed pencil jet nozzles are very accurate and will target the individual weeds as the vehicle is driven along. Only the weed is sprayed – not the surrounding area.

This machine is designed  to identify weeds in hard standing areas such as gravel, block paved areas, car parks etc. We are little way off seeing the same machine on a sports turf pitch –The technology will develop and over time this is what we where we would like to see the technology end up – its certainly on our minds! The transition from where we are now to sports areas could for example see us identifying clover on a golf course for example. The technology is being developed all the time – however I cannot put a timescale on this!

Are machines available for demo or any clinics /trade events you are at in the year ahead?

We are happy to demonstrate our whole product range – either on your site or we welcome people to visit our factory for a tour and demo! We display at most of the main Groundcare shows during the year.

What can be after use and service wise to keep the machines running effectively?

We always recommend flushing the machines through with clean water and cleaning out all filters. In the winter running some anti-freeze though the pumps is a good idea.
