Sports Turf Machinery Operator

Interesting job operating sportsturf-related machinery at various sports venues for highly-regarded family-run sportsturf maintenance & renovation contractor, based near Swindon, Malmesbury and Cirencester. You will transport and operate our specialist aerators, tractors, drills, mowers, etc. at clients’ sports clubs all over the country and sometimes in Europe. Other tasks may include site preparation, fencing, landscaping, white lining and performing workshop and bagging plant duties at our premises.

We seek a practical, agriculturally-minded person to join our small, friendly team. You must be conscientious, self-motivated, good with people and able to use your initiative. Work is varied and customers’ sports clubs are mainly golf, rugby, football and cricket. Towing licence preferable. Mechanical skills for minor repairs and vehicle/machinery maintenance would be useful; agricultural experience; current passport and Class C1 on driving licence for 7.5 tonne vehicles an advantage.

All other training will be given. Relaxed atmosphere, pleasant rural location, paid overtime. Competitive salary for the right person. There are plenty of opportunities for partners, children, sport and social life. You will need to live within 20 miles of our base at Minety SN16 9RJ

Assistant Groundsperson

Clients Details:
Kingston Grammar School is in the heart of Kingston upon Thames, with excellent transport links to central London by rail and road. Ditton Field, a newly renovated, 22-acre sports grounds and boat house on the River Thames, is the home of KGS Sport. 

Candidate profile:
KGS is looking for an Assistant Groundsperson to join our Estates team to undertake grounds and gardens preparation and maintenance duties, under the control of the Head Groundsman to provide first class sports facilities and amenity areas.  

Based at Ditton Field, our 22-acre sports ground, the assistant groundsperson is responsible for maintaining the lawns, playing fields, synthetic and hard-court areas to a high standard ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose.  The role also involves using tractors and operating other mechanical equipment, adhering to all the required safety standards so previous experience is essential.

Essential requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 in sports turf maintenance or equivalent  
  • COSSH 
  • Holder of qualification to use agricultural chemicals & pesticides 
  • Full driving licence 
  • Ability to carry out a risk assessment 
  • Knowledge of health & safety relevant to the post 

Desirable requirements:

  • Previous sports grounds maintenance experience or similar role  
  • Preparation of cricket playing surfaces 
  • Use of agricultural chemicals and seeds 
  • Marking pitches and athletics tracks 
  • Previous experience of working in an educational environment

Grounds Manager

Clients Details:
The Blackheath Cricket, Football and Lawn Tennis Company was founded in 1886 to operate the Rectory Field sports ground in the London Borough of Greenwich. In 1937 two squash courts were built to add a fourth sport at the site. Over the years the ground has hosted international, county and club rugby matches, county, representative and club cricket, representative, club and cup tennis and squash. The history of the company, the individual sports clubs and the ground is rich and expansive.

The Rectory Field is still home to Blackheath Cricket Club [Kent Premier League], Blackheath Rugby Colts Section [Kent League], Blackheath Tennis Club [Kent League and club competitions] and Blackheath Squash Club [North Kent League and club competitions].

Combined, the clubs currently have more than 550 adult and 675 junior active playing members. The facility comprises of: The cricket square and 4 artificial nets; 2 floodlit Rugby pitches; 4 acrylic, 4 artificial clay and 3 grass Tennis courts; and 2 Squash courts.

Candidate profile:
Blackheath CFLT is looking to recruit a Ground-manager with the experience, drive and commitment to oversee, prepare and maintain the grounds at the Rectory Field. The post will report to the Board via the Ground Director.

Key Accountabilities:

To produce Cricket, Rugby and Lawn tennis playing surfaces to a standard commensurate with, and beyond the level of play and competition standard.
To prepare the season programme [ground and pitch schedules] and enable proper budget provision to be made in advance.
To advise the Board on strategic enhancements for ground improvement and development
To establish and maintain neat surrounds, banks, gardens, and trees to a standard complementary to the playing surfaces. To keep the driveway, paths, grounds surrounds, main stand, tidy, in good order and well maintained.
To ensure all machinery and equipment is kept in good order and properly maintained
To ensure that the “ground house” is suitably well maintained. Liaise with Chair of the Board to arrange schedules and planned works to the property.
To provide general maintenance services, where relevant skill sets are applicable, for the pavilion, changing room block, squash building and all outbuildings,
To deal with people who come to the Club outside of the Pavilion opening times, including accepting deliveries, brewery deliveries, monitoring security on site, and ensuring good relationships with the local community.
Implement all H&S laws, regulations, standards and requirements
Generally, support and participate in club and company initiatives

Essential requirements:

Positive, proactive team player
At least three years’ experience as a grounds-person, including cricket and grass court playing surfaces
Ground qualifications [on the job and/or academic]
Awareness of relevant health and safety legislation and practices
Flexible working practices, including seasonal patterns, weekends and hours
Basic mechanical and machine maintenance
General property maintenance and repairs
Desirable requirements:

An interest in sport; preferably cricket, rugby, tennis and squash
Full UK clean driving licence
PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates
Interested in personal improvement

Cash Salary: £20,000 – £22,000 per annum
Accommodation: Detached, 2 Storey, 3-Bedroom House, with a small secluded garden, located in a private position on the edge of the site.
