Hi Paul, please tell us a little about yourself?
Paul Cherry, I am 44 years old and l started off as a volunteer cricket grounds man 11 years ago and from that interest has grown. My career started 2019 with a couple of grounds to look after on a contract basis, my aim is to go full time in 2021.
Currently I look after Chearsley Cricket Club, a new ground for MP Academy and also help out at my own club Waddesdon Cricket Club in Buckinghamshire.
Any hobbies Paul?
In my spare time l still enjoy playing Cricket and spending time with my family ,what little time I have.
Any top tips Paul, to pass onto others?
What l have noticed is that you are always learning in this industry and each site is different and the processes needs to be adapted e.g moisture management, so there is not a fixed way of doing anything.
Favourite bit of kit?
If l had to choose one bit of kit l wouldn’t be without the Sisis lawnman even, if it is a love hate relationship sometimes. I should be on commission for preaching its merits.

What would people say about you Paul?
I would hope they would say, hardworking along with a good level of attention to detail and that l improve cricket pitches.
Cons of being a groundsman?
Mental health and pressures to reach the highest standards/expectations when budgets don’t always match.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by the pride I have in a job well done and pushing myself to continuously improve.
Paul Cherry
